Holiday Fun in New Orleans: RTA Routes to the Festivities

The holiday season is a magical time in New Orleans. Whether you are headed to a family get-together or one of the city’s classic holiday events, the Regional Transit Authority has you covered. Below are three events that are going on all season long in New Orleans as well as which buses, streetcars, and ferries get you to them.

The Roosevelt Hotel

Showcasing classic New Orleans holiday style, the Roosevelt Hotel in the Central Business District decks their halls with frosted trees, garland, and lights galore. Even if you are not planning on staying at the hotel, a walk down the main hallway will no doubt fill anyone with holiday joy. There are many RTA routes that can get you to the Roosevelt Hotel. Bus routes include 15 – Freret, 91 – Jackson/Esplanade, and 114 – Gen. De Gaulle. The Canal Streetcar runs near the hotel, and runs every 15 minutes. The Canal Street-Algiers Point ferry is only a short walk away, and runs every 30 minutes.

Between Lafayette Street and Poydras Street, Fulton Street turns into an alley way. During the holiday season, the area becomes a festive path of lights and snowfall. Live musical performances are held on Fridays and Saturdays leading up to Christmas. Not to mention, there are several places around the alleyway to enjoy a bite to eat or a nice cocktail. Route 10 – Tchoupitoulas and 16 – S. Claiborne have stops near the Fulton Street alley, and the Canal streetcar and Canal Street-Algiers Point Ferry are a short walk.

City Park is home to countless oak trees which have been around for hundreds of years. When the holidays season arrives, they shine with beautiful string of lights. Fun for the whole family, Celebration in the Oaks touches every aspect of City Park. Whether you decide to enjoy the maze of lights in the Botanical Gardens or ride Santa’s train through the park, the event is a must-see for everyone in New Orleans. Bus routes to City Park include 27 – Louisiana, 45 – Lakeview, 60 – Hayne, 90 – Carrollton, 91 – Jackson/Esplanade. The Canal-City Park streetcar ends at the entrance of City Park
