Getting to the Airport

The RTA is the transportation service provider of Orleans Parish. Because the Louis Armstrong International Airport is in Jefferson Parish, the RTA does not provide direct service to the airport.

Still, you can get a ride between the airport and New Orleans using Jefferson Transit, which is the transportation system of Jefferson Parish. Jefferson Transit operates an airport bus that runs into New Orleans and connects with the RTA system.

Jefferson Transit’s airport bus is the E2.

Where can I catch the E2 airport bus?

Jefferson Transit’s E2 airport bus stops at two places in New Orleans:

  • In Mid-City, at the intersection of Tulane Avenue and S. Carrollton Avenue
  • In downtown New Orleans, at the intersection of Tulane Avenue and Loyola Avenue

Please be aware that on weekends the E2 airport bus does not travel all the way into downtown New Orleans. The only stop serviced by the bus on Saturdays and Sundays is the Mid-City stop.

Also be aware that during weekdays, the bus travels to the downtown New Orleans stop on buses that leave the airport between 5:30AM and 7PM.

More information about the E2 schedule and route can be found here.

How do I get to the E2 bus stop in Mid-City?

An easy way to get to the Mid-City E2 bus stop (Tulane Avenue at S. Carrollton Avenue) from downtown is to take the Canal Streetcar to the corner of Canal Street and S. Carrollton Avenue. Then, walk down S. Carrollton Avenue to Tulane Avenue. The half-mile walk should take about 10 minutes.

You can also take an RTA bus directly to the Mid-City E2 bus stop. Buses that stop there are:

Please see our system map for further details.

How do I get to the E2 bus stop in downtown New Orleans?

An easy way to get to the downtown E2 bus stop (Tulane Avenue at Loyola Avenue) is to take the Canal Streetcar to the corner of Canal Street and Elk Place. Then, walk down Elk Place to Tulane Avenue.

Note that Elk Place and Loyola Avenue are the same street. The street name changes at Tulane Avenue.

The tenth-of-a-mile walk to the bus stop from the streetcar stop at Canal Street and Elk Place should take about 2 minutes.

You can also take an RTA bus directly to the downtown E2 bus stop. Many lines service this area. Please see our system map for further details.

How much does the E2 airport bus cost?

A one-way fare between the airport and New Orleans is $2.00. The fare is set by Jefferson Transit and could change without the RTA’s knowledge. Visit the Jefferson Transit website’s E2 page for complete information.

Please be aware that bus transfers are not compatible across the RTA and the Jefferson Transit systems.

Does the RTA’s paratransit service go to the airport?

Yes, the RTA does provide paratransit service to and from the airport.

The RTA’s paratransit service is for disabled riders who have proven their eligibility in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Please see Eligibility for Paratransit for details.

Going to the airport

  • Reservations must be made 5 days in advance.
  • The service costs $15.
  • The fare for any companions, including personal care attendants, is also $15.
  • Each rider is allowed two bags. Each bag should weigh 30 pounds or less.
  • The driver can put bags in the vehicle for you, but please have all bags ready at the curb.
  • You, any companions, and your bags will be dropped off at the curb at your airline’s departure area. If you need more help after the drop off, you need to make arrangements with the airport’s Skycap service or the airline.

Going to New Orleans from the airport

  • Reservations must be made 5 days in advance. Please let the operator know if you are calling long distance.
  • The fare is $15 per person, and the same bag limitations apply.
  • The RTA will have placed a paratransit vehicle on standby for you, but because flight arrival times are uncertain, the vehicle will not be waiting for you. You need to call the RTA when your plan lands. The RTA will then send out the standby vehicle to pick you up.

  • The paratransit bus will meet you at the pick-up point. The driver can help you load your luggage and help you board the vehicle.

For more information, call the RTA’s paratransit service at (504) 827-7433.
