Lower Algiers–Chalmette Ferry to Resume Normal Operations Saturday
- May 22nd, 2026
New Orleans, LA - The Lower Algiers–Chalmette Ferry will resume normal operations on Saturday, May 23, 2026, beginning at 6 a.m.
Ferry service was temporarily suspended following a routine inspection of the Chalmette Ferry bridge conducted by the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LADOTD), during which issues were identified that required repairs at the Chalmette landing. LADOTD has since completed the necessary repairs, allowing ferry service to safely resume.
The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) thanks riders and surrounding communities for their patience and understanding during the temporary service interruption.
