Who We Are

We’re connecting more people to more places to make life better and create equitable opportunities for all!

The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is a political subdivision of the State of Louisiana established by Act 439 of 1979 to provide public transportation in the New Orleans metropolitan region. The agency was designed to serve multiple parishes including Orleans, Jefferson, St. Tammany, and St. Bernard. Orleans Parish is currently the sole participating parish on our board.

RTA operates a multimodal transit system that includes bus, streetcar, ferry, and ADA paratransit service connecting residents, workers, students, and visitors to destinations across the city. The system currently serves a population of approximately 487,000 (NTD, 2024) while maintaining connections to surrounding communities.
