New Orleans RTA to Phase Reopening of Services after Extended Snow and Icy Weather Conditions
- January 22nd, 2025
NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) has announced plans for a phased reopening of transit services following the recent severe winter weather. Out of an abundance of caution and due to ongoing road safety concerns, including potential refreezing, all RTA services will remain suspended through Thursday, January 23, and Friday, January 24. Restoration of services is tentatively scheduled for this coming weekend, pending further evaluation of road conditions and operational readiness.
“RTA has a solid plan in place to gradually bring transit services back online as soon as conditions are safe to do so,” said Lona Edwards Hankins, RTA CEO. “The plan includes a phased approach based on road conditions, staff availability, and safety.”
Key Updates for Riders and the Community:
- Service Resumption: RTA is targeting a gradual restoration of services on Sunday, January 26, contingent upon improved road conditions and safety assessments.
- Office Closures: All RTA offices will remain closed through Friday, January 24. Administrative staff will work remotely to ensure continued operations and planning.
RTA is committed to keeping residents informed during this time. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
