RTA Announces Lighting Improvements at New Orleans East Transit Hub

  • March 31st, 2025

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is excited to announce upcoming improvements to the New Orleans East Transit Hub as part of our continued efforts to enhance safety, accessibility, and efficiency across our transit network.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, April 1st, RTA will begin work on a lighting improvement project at the transit hub, located at the corner of Read and Lake Forest Boulevards. The project includes the installation of new lighted bollards along Read Boulevard, adjacent to the existing bus shelters. These additions will significantly improve visibility and security for transit riders, particularly during nighttime and early morning hours.

Construction is expected to be completed by May 2025, and RTA is committed to minimizing disruptions for transit riders and visitors to the nearby East New Orleans Library. Shelters and sidewalk access will remain open throughout the project, however riders should be aware of possible mild construction noise and dust.

“These improvements reflect RTA’s commitment to providing a safer and more comfortable experience for our riders,” said RTA CEO, Lona Edwards Hankins. “We appreciate our riders and the community’s patience and support as we continue investing in infrastructure that enhances mobility for all.”
