RTA Finalizing RFP Process for ADA Paratransit Certification Evaluation, Paratransit Fleet Upgrades, and New Ticket Book Purchase Option

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) is in the final stages of completing the request for proposal (RFP) process to select a third-party contractor for managing ADA Eligibility Certification Evaluation Services. This step underscores RTA’s ongoing commitment to improving services for our most vulnerable riders.
“We’re excited to have chosen a vendor that aligns with our goals for enhancing the ADA Paratransit Eligibility Certification process,” said Lona Edwards Hankins, RTA CEO. “This decision reinforces our dedication to delivering high-quality service to those who need it most, ensuring long-term benefits for the community.”
The selected vendor will be announced following RTA’s next board meeting.
With the selection of a vendor to manage ADA Paratransit Eligibility Certification Evaluation Services, RTA's paratransit riders should experience the following benefits:
- Streamlined and accessible eligibility certification process
- Enhanced support for applications, including flexible formats such as braille, large print, and electronic files
- Transportation provided for in-person assessments
- Eligibility determinations completed within the 21-day timeframe
- Support offered throughout the appeals process
- Compliance with ADA regulations to ensure fair and accessible services for all eligible riders
- Improved overall experience for paratransit users
Additionally, RTA will upgrade its paratransit fleet and introduce a new payment option that is already available:
- 13 new Ford paratransit vehicles are expected to be in active service by December 2024
- 12 new Chevrolet Cutaway paratransit buses are expected to be in active service by the second quarter of 2025
- Prepay Paratransit Ticket Books are now available for purchase:
- Ticket book includes 10 rides for $20 ($2 per ride)
- Purchase your ticket book at norta.com/store to have them mailed to your house
- Pick up in person Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., at the RTA Customer Service desk located at 2817 Canal St.
