RTA to offer free rides on Election Day, Saturday, Oct. 14
- October 13th, 2023
NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (RTA) will offer complimentary round-trip transportation to local polling stations on the Louisiana Primary Election Day – Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023. Voters can use RTA buses, streetcars and ferries without paying any fare. On Oct. 14, all transit fees will be waived, and there is no need to prove your voter registration to enjoy the free ride.
In 2020, the RTA Board of Commissioners approved a resolution backed by the New Orleans City Council to eliminate fares on official election days. This move aligns with the agency’s goal of creating an equitable transit system that serves all residents. The RTA’s decision to remove fares on election days plays a crucial role in making it easier for residents to exercise their right to vote.
The Louisiana Secretary of State oversees election details and polling places. Riders can discover their voting location by visiting geauxvote.com.
