The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority Board Welcomes New Commissioner

NEW ORLEANS – Today, the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority’s (RTA) Board of Commissioners seated its newest member during its February meeting: Mayoral appointee Ms. Mariah Moore.
Moore is a nationally recognized, award-winning organizer and activist dedicated to advancing equity, equality, and safety for the transgender community. Hailing from New Orleans, LA, she serves as the Director of Policy and Programs at the Transgender Law Center and is the co-founder of House of Tulip, a vital resource hub providing housing and support for transgender and gender non-conforming individuals in New Orleans.
“I am honored to join the RTA Board of Commissioners and to serve my community in this capacity,” said RTA Board Commissioner Mariah Moore. “Public transit is a lifeline for so many, and I am committed to ensuring that our system is equitable, accessible, and responsive to the needs of all riders, especially those who have historically been underserved. I look forward to working alongside my fellow commissioners to create a transit system that truly serves every New Orleanian and provides a welcoming, reliable experience for all who visit our great city.”

In 2021, Mariah made history as the first transgender woman to run for the New Orleans City Council, further cementing her commitment to transformative change. Her groundbreaking work has been featured in major publications such as Vogue, Essence, The Guardian, The New York Times, Huffington Post, Washington Blade, and numerous other national and local media outlets. Through tireless advocacy, Mariah continues to shape policies and initiatives that uplift and protect marginalized communities.

The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority is a political subdivision of the State of Louisiana which is operated by an independent Board of Commissioners that serves Orleans, Jefferson and St. Bernard parishes. The agency operates car and passenger ferries, fixed-route buses, paratransit, streetcar, and limited on-demand service.
